Word of the Day Challenge: Pleasing
CFFC: Candid
It is the first time we have seen two pond cygnets this year and they are looking well, albeit less muscular than the seven river cygnets.
It is lovely to meet them as last year we did not see any cygnets on the pond.

The seven cygnets nesting on our river are ten weeks old today and the first white feathers are beginning to show.
You can see them at one week old in our earlier post Welcome to the World.

We are deeply honoured and delighted that the second photograph above has been included in the Nairn River Swans & Waterfowl Trust’s 2022 Calendar. A warm-hearted thank you to Joe Telfer for all his work and to Iona Gibson for putting this beautiful calendar together.
Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge: Favourites
We were treated to a rare visit by basking sharks yesterday who came to feed on the plankton in the Moray Firth before starting their long migration to warmer climes.
They were swimming and feeding close to paddle boarders, kayaks and sailing boats and the people aboard featured in many of my photographs as a result.
If you recognise yourself in the image above or the slideshow below please get in touch through the contact form and I’ll be happy to send you a copy of the photograph.
We were watching from the shore and it was lovely to see these gentle giants.

It is a treat to see how patient herons are when using these trusted old methods to catch a new meal every day.
At the same I felt for the small fish and said a few prayers for him and his family.

These mallard ducks seemed to enjoy themselves, splashing in the tidal flows of the river.
