Riding Out the Storm at Portsoy
Clan Cancer Support, in partnership with Wild in Art, shone a light across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland with Light the North, a lighthouse trail from 9 August to 17 October 2021. It was designed to provide a light in the dark for people affected by cancer and the lighthouses were later auctioned off to raise funds for the charity.
The above lighthouse, Riding Out the Storm by mosaic artist Rachel Davies, stood on a plinth at Portsoy harbour during this time and the local community loved it so much they wanted to keep it. With the help of crowdfunding organised by the Portsoy 75 Club and the local community, they succeeded in offering the winning bid.
We have been meaning to visit the area and this particular lighthouse for some time and it is lovely to see every little detail of the mosaics up close.
Wishing you all a blessed Sunday and may you always have a light to guide you through the storms,

Lens-Artists Weekly Photo Challenge #200: Every Little Thing
It is lovely to see that six cygnets have hatched two days ago. The pen (mama swan) is still on the nest with three of her cygnets by her side (one out of view), whilst the cob (papa swan) is showing the other three where the best feeding places are.
We do not know how many eggs have not hatched yet and the parents are taking it in turns to sit on them and take their cygnets for a swim and feed.

Lens-Artists Weekly Photo Challenge #198: Light and Shadow
On 16 April 1746, the Jacobite Rising came to a head at Culloden and the repercussions, especially on the Gaelic culture of the Highlands, were felt for many generations.
We visited Culloden at the beginning of February and even though the battle fought here happened a long time ago, you can still feel something in the air.
Over the coming weeks I will be sharing more photographs and a few poems I wrote while we were here.

We break from the doings of our day and make space to notice you.
You are always with us in surprising guises.
