Silent Sunday: Six River Cygnets

It is lovely to see that six cygnets have hatched two days ago. The pen (mama swan) is still on the nest with three of her cygnets by her side (one out of view), whilst the cob (papa swan) is showing the other three where the best feeding places are.

We do not know how many eggs have not hatched yet and the parents are taking it in turns to sit on them and take their cygnets for a swim and feed.

Wishing you a blessed Sunday and a peaceful new week,

Silent Sunday: Swans and Sweet Cicely

a contented looking pen (female swan) on her nest

We are delighted that a young pair of swans moved in after our older pair left the river.

The pen (female swan) was born here four years ago. She would have joined a flock after leaving her parents and met her cob along the way.

It is lovely that she has returned to the place where her life began. She is familiar with the terrain, the tides and the feeding grounds. Yesterday, her first cygnets hatched.

The nest is surrounded by tall grasses and Sweet Cicely, which provide a good buffer for the strong winds we have at the moment.

Swans are doting parents who give their offspring the best possible start in life for the long journey ahead.

Wishing you all a blessed Sunday and a peaceful new week,
