Clan Cancer Support, in partnership with Wild in Art, shone a light across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland with Light the North, a lighthouse trail from 9 August to 17 October 2021. It was designed to provide a light in the dark for people affected by cancer and the lighthouses were later auctioned off to raise funds for the charity.
The above lighthouse, Riding Out the Storm by mosaic artist Rachel Davies, stood on a plinth at Portsoy harbour during this time and the local community loved it so much they wanted to keep it. With the help of crowdfunding organised by the Portsoy 75 Club and the local community, they succeeded in offering the winning bid.
We have been meaning to visit the area and this particular lighthouse for some time and it is lovely to see every little detail of the mosaics up close.
Wishing you all a blessed Sunday and may you always have a light to guide you through the storms,
with love from Xenia xxx

Xenia, what a perfect choice for this week’s challenge. I absolutely loved this and can see why the town was so anxious to keep it. So glad they were successful!

These images are stunning. Intricate mosaic patterns have always fascinated me, and I have a not-so-secret love for lighthouses. Combined, what a work of art! And all for a w0nderful cause, too. Would that I lived by the sea so I could experience the captivating mystique of lighthouses again. Thanks for sharing your beautiful images with us, Xenia. 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Mike, lighthouses are such symbols of hope and safe harbour. We love seeing them too and this particular lighthouse was part of a wonderful project. The way the artist has the stormy, dark seas at the bottom that become calmer and lighter in colour near the top is so symbolic of how a guiding light can offer support in difficult times. Wishing you a blessed new week and may the lighthouses you have seen along your journey continue to guide you too 💜

This is truly my favorite submission for this weeks lens-artists challenge. When I first looked at your photos I was thinking how I would want to run my hand over the mosaic tile, and look closers at the workmanship. To hear there is a greater cause with its presence is amazing. Very nice. Donna
