So cute and such a lovely bowl for the little one! What is this animal, Xenia? I guess he’s saying ‘thank you’ in that last photo!

Oh my Xenia, I’ve completely lost it! I’ve been admiring a bird on another blog and did not even realize I wrote this to you! Many apologies and yes, I can see she is NOT a bird.

Thank you dear Denise and no worries – I hope you’ll get the answer you were seeking about the bird too! 💛 xxx

A completely new bird to me and is she rare or an everyday bird for your corner of the world?

Pine marten (a mammal, not a bird!) are protected in Scotland and here in the Highlands we are lucky enough to see them in forests and rural gardens too 🐾💚🐾 xxx

A pine martin! She looks so cute but I bet she could defend herself with those sharp little teeth she is showing in the last photo.

Thank you kindly dear Anne, she would certainly be able to stand her ground! 💛 She’s crunching the nuts in the last image and her teeth are very strong (pine marten eat birds, vole, mice and sometimes even squirrels as well as fruit and nuts). We let the dogs in and out through the front yard while we were visiting and fed the wildlife only in the back yard to avoid any confrontation 🐾🧡🐾 xxx

So cute!! Is the little pine martin a wild animal? So sweet!

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Lisa 💛 The pine marten is a wild animal (on the critically endangered list in England and Wales through hunting and loss of woodland habitat) and legally protected here in Scotland. They nest in trees and people who live in or near woods often put nesting boxes up for them and feed them through the colder seasons. This lovely female and her three kits live in a nesting box in a pine tree next to the property we were visiting 🐾🧡🐾

Oh wow what a lovely sight. Does she visit often? We have had them in the garden twice but know they are in the forest below our house as we regularly see their scats.

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Karina, she’s a regular visitor and came to feed most nights when we were there. So lovely you have them close by in the forest and have seen them in your garden too! 🐾💛🐾
