Following on from our earlier post Swan Love, the cob (male swan) is building the nest whilst the pen (female swan) is feeding on extra minerals in the river below.

  5. Lovely photos of your swans. Nice to see them again. The trumpeter swans on the pond near us are back too. The odd thing is there are THREE swans. Does the cob have a harem? or does the pen have two cobs. I have never seen three swans before. What do you think about this combination? Could one be a baby from last year?

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Anne 💛 It’s common for juvenile swans (who aren’t yet breeding) to form or join a flock and sometimes youngsters return to a nesting site if their parents have perished or chosen to nest elsewhere. I don’t know whether you’ll be able to get close enough to see whether the trumpeter swans are male or female and what kind of age they are. If this is last year’s breeding pair with one of their cygnets, the youngster’s feathers won’t be completely white yet 💚 xxx
