Silent Sunday: Swans and Sweet Cicely

We are delighted that a young pair of swans moved in after our older pair left the river.

The pen (female swan) was born here four years ago. She would have joined a flock after leaving her parents and met her cob along the way.

It is lovely that she has returned to the place where her life began. She is familiar with the terrain, the tides and the feeding grounds. Yesterday, her first cygnets hatched.

The nest is surrounded by tall grasses and Sweet Cicely, which provide a good buffer for the strong winds we have at the moment.

Swans are doting parents who give their offspring the best possible start in life for the long journey ahead.

Wishing you all a blessed Sunday and a peaceful new week,

with love from Xenia xxx

  1. Beautiful photos of the swans. We have a pair on a small lake up the road from us. I keep waiting to see them out on the water with the cygnets but nothing so far. I am a bit worried that something may have gone wrong as usually the little ones are out by now. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words dear Anne and fingers crossed all will be well with the swans on your lake too. If you are at all concerned it may be worth contacting your local bird or animal welfare agency 💚 xxx
